My Journey to Embryology: From a Small Village to AIR 1 at AIIMS Delhi
🧬 My Journey to Embryology: From a Small Village to AIR 1 at AIIMS Delhi
— By Pooja Saggu, MSc Clinical Embryology Student, AIIMS Delhi
🌱 Where It All Began
I come from a small village — a place where the word “embryology” is rarely heard, let alone understood. Growing up, I was surrounded by people who had never imagined a career in reproductive science. But deep inside me, a spark kept growing — a desire to do something unique, purposeful, and life-changing.
While many around me dreamed of becoming doctors, engineers, or teachers, I began to dream of something else — of understanding the miracle of life right from the first cell.
That dream led me to reproductive biology — and eventually to embryology.
🎯 The Goal: AIIMS MSc Clinical Embryology
Once I discovered the MSc Clinical Embryology course at AIIMS Delhi, I knew this was my path. AIIMS isn’t just a medical institute; it’s a temple of knowledge, discipline, and innovation.
But the road wasn’t easy.
I studied with limited resources, using mostly standard textbooks, online materials, and a powerful determination.
People around me didn’t understand what embryology was. Some even said it wasn’t a “real” career.
But I kept going. Quietly. Relentlessly.
I studied early mornings and late nights. I solved MCQs, revised notes, and pushed through doubt and exhaustion.
And one day — I saw my name in the merit list. Rank 1. AIR 1.
AIIMS Delhi.

💫 Why I Chose Embryology
Embryology is not just a course. It’s the study of the origin of life.
It’s where medicine meets miracles.
As an embryologist, you’re not just working in a lab. You’re:
Giving couples the joy of parenthood
Helping preserve fertility for cancer patients
Contributing to the future of assisted reproduction
Being part of one of the most emotionally impactful fields of medicine
And now, with AI, genetics, and regenerative medicine — embryology is evolving faster than ever.
